Postcards from Nowhere
Drawing and Illustration workshop with Cristóbal and Johanna Schmal from 27. – 30.08.2026 in Erlau (Odenwald)

Packing our suitcase.
Saying goodbye to the people we love.
Finishing our work before setting out on the journey.

Will it be cold or warm?
Will it rain, or will the sky be wide open?

When we travel to other places, our perception changes. As we move closer to our destination, we feel the tension between desire and uncertainty.

In this course, we want to explore landscape not only as a natural space, but also as an emotional state—one that encourages us to observe closely and opens us to new perceptions. (Within this new configuration) Within this unfamiliar place, we seek to establish a dialogue between the external landscape—the world around us—and the internal one: How do we give meaning to it through presence and remembrance, through collection and invention?

Over the course of these three days, we will develop a zine project in which we will capture personal and collective experience, as well as our relationship with nature, in an ongoing exchange between encounter and memory.

Through drawing, painting, writing, and experimental processes, we will explore a range of visual and literary narrative tools, taking inspiration from hybrid formats such as the artist’s book, comics, travel journals, fanzines, and graphic novels.
